HOW WE WORK

Destitutes and people without homes can approach Udayam in several ways.

  • Referral Call: Anyone from the public, police or any other authority can call the number 9207391138 to refer individuals in need. Telephonic screening will be conducted by staff.

  • Outreach Program: Udayam team conducts outreach programs and night visits across the district in order to identify individuals in need and encourage them to take help from Udayam.

  • Voluntary Admission: Individuals can voluntarily approach Udayam homes or offices through walk-ins.

  • Hospitals: Individuals discharged from hospitals with no place to go can approach Udayam. The direct or telephonic screening will be conducted by staff.

Post this, based on their age, sex and health status, individuals will be taken into Udayam homes or referred to other appropriate agencies after a COVID-19 test and with the consent of the concerned officials.

Once taken into the Udayam homes, police verification and psycho-social assessment of the residents are done and customized intervention is planned for each person, based on their assessment. The interventions can be as follows:

  • Help the person to get adjusted to the new environment.

  • Facilitate education and skill training in order to gain employment.

  • Identify the families and provide family counselling in an attempt to reintegrate the family if appropriate. The person may leave the home at any time or once they are independent or can stay longer if in need.

  • Provide medical treatment for physical and mental health requirements.

  • Refer to any other appropriate agencies.

  • Provide legal aid to avail identity cards if they do not have them.

  • Other need-based interventions, either individual, group or familial.
